How often should I feed my puppy?

Asked at homeHow often should I feed my puppy?
PupShift · Short answerAbout four meals a day at 2–3 months, three from 3 to 6 months, and two from about 6 months, following the AKC’s puppy feeding guidance. Keep the times regular, and let the food label and your vet set the amount.

Meals by age

AgeMeals a dayExample times
2–3 months47:00, 11:00, 15:00, 19:00
3–6 months37:00, 12:00, 18:00
6–12 months28:00, 19:00

These are the same times PupShift sets when you tell it the puppy’s age. The feeding schedule tool moves them to fit your morning.

Regular beats exact

The exact hour matters less than keeping it. Regular meals make potty trips easier to predict, and you notice quickly when food is left in the bowl. VCA notes that a change in eating can be an early sign that something is wrong; if it happens, call your vet.

When several people feed

The common mistake in a family is a second breakfast. Decide who feeds which meal, and keep one shared record. In PupShift, a meal within two hours of the last one gets a question first.
