How many times a day should a cat eat?
Asked at homeHow many times a day should a cat eat?
PupShift · Short answerMost adult cats do well with at least two measured meals a day, and kittens usually need about three until around six months. Some cats need set times for medical reasons; then your vet decides.
Kittens and adults
The Cornell Feline Health Center says kittens usually do best with three meals a day until about six months, since they need more food per pound of body weight while they grow. For adult cats, VCA says the most common recommendation is at least two meals a day.
A trick for families
Measure the day’s food in the morning and split it. Whoever feeds takes from that portion, so a cat who convinces two people still eats the right amount. Our cat feeding guide has a family plan.
