How it works

The number of meals follows the AKC’s puppy feeding guidance: about four meals a day at 2–3 months, three from 3 to 6 months, and two from around 6 months.

The times are spread evenly over the day, starting when you pick. They are the same times PupShift suggests for that age, moved to fit your morning.

How much to feed depends on the food and on your puppy. The bag gives a starting point; your vet can say what fits.

Questions

How many times a day should a puppy eat?

Most guidance, including the AKC’s, suggests about four meals a day up to 3 months, three meals from 3 to 6 months, and two meals from about 6 months. Your vet can adjust this for your puppy.

When do puppies go down to two meals a day?

Usually around 6 months. Some puppies move a little earlier or later; ask your vet.

Should the last meal be early in the evening?

Many trainers keep the last meal a few hours before bedtime, so there is time for a potty trip before sleep.
